Avoid Stammering

Help on dealing with a stutter or stammer

About avoidstammering

I cannot remember at what age I started to stammer  maybe when I was 6 or 7 years old, my mother  thought it was because Miss West a teacher at school, made me tie my shoelaces - for god’s sake!

Anyway I stammered - or stuttered or was generally not able to get my words out, ran out of breath and was generally not able to converse properly but I could sing!

At primary school, it was liveable with, I read aloud and I sang on stage at some Eleven plus year festival thing. But even then I was beginning to avoid words that I knew would be difficult to deal with

It was really grammar school, that nearly did for me and anyone who has ever sat through the ritual of the teacher (or masters as they were at my school) going around the class asking questions will know the creeping fear as the questions get closer and closer to you and you know that your breath will give out and that you will not just be able to able to get those words out and everyone waits for you and sniggers and then someone with all the best intentions starts suggesting the words you are desperately trying to articulate .
